A potassium chloride project in Khammouan, Laos, with an output of 500,000 tons/yr, went into trial operation on Oct 20, with all facilities functioning well on a 24-hour basis, with high quality potassium chloride as a result. This was a significant sign of progress.
One thing worth mentioning is that, while the potassium content in the ore was 17 percent, the potassium chloride produced still had a 95 percent purity level in the test run. As the production process improves and further tests are done and the equipment improved, there will be more room for improvement in the production indices.
Over the past year, workers and managers at the Khammouan potassium chloride project overcame difficulties in the environment and living conditions while doing the construction work. And their hard work resulted in a successful test run. The trials are still underway, and the final touches are being put on the project.
